Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

fig tart & tea

Located in Kashihara city where is next to Asuka area (there are a number of remains in Asuka period including Takamatsuzuka Tumulus, Kitora Tumulus and Ishibutai Tumulus in the area), the shop has been run by mother and daughter.

At the café featuring tarte and tea, you'll be able to enjoy ingenious cakes and well-selected tea. The wood-focused interior with white-themed design can promise you to provide a nice cosy space.

Both mother and daughter are friendly. They keep never being in the way and never out of the way to their customers. Thanks to which, we spent a good time and relaxed in the warm atmosphere.

A bakery "RUSTIC BAKERY" next to the café is popular among the local people. The recommendation for the best buy is "Asuka rice cornet", which is introduced in a TV programme.

Asuka ni imasu Jinja

This shrine is renowned all over the country for its strange festival "Onda matsuri". It's usually a rural old shrine in a quiet location but the festival attracts many tourists and stalls make an approach to the shrine look exciting and brilliant on the festival day.

The festival consists of two parts: Shinto ritual for agricultural fertility and for a wish to be gifted with children. The reason the festival is called the unmatched strange festival is by the Shinto ritual for an explicit depiction of make love in a humorous way in the second part.

A piece of paper for happiness used at the Shinto ritual is spread to visitors after the ritual. People who would be able to get the fortunate paper are so lucky and legend has it that their families will become more and more prosperous.

The festival is held on the first Sunday in February every year from 2pm. There is a power stone in the grounds of the shrine and it's said that his / her wish is fulfilled if a man picks the stone up with his left hand, or when a woman picks the stone up with her right hand.

precinct

"Asuka-dera" is the place where Nakatomi no Kamatari and Naka no Ohe no Ohji (prince) caused the Taika Reform in 645 first met. And there is the tomb of Soga no Iruka's head killed in the reform at the back of the temple.

The Sogas were powerful figures in the Asuka period and a number of their luxurious house stood side-by-side around the temple. Also "Asuka-dera" used to be the temple of the guardian gods of the Soga family.

The temple with a long and distinguished history has much to offer to tourists despite the small temple. The principal Buddhist image "The Great Buddha of Asuka" housed at the main hall is designated as important cultural properties (the admission fee is required if you see).

Anyone can strike the bell on the temple grounds freely. The three stone Buddhist images are Namu Daishi Henjo Kongo (for safe driving), Namu Kanzeon bodhisattva (for the safety of your family), Namu Daisho Fudomyoo (for the success in love) from right.
